Kerolos Makhloof: A Major Inspiration, Friend, and Supporter to Many

On July 23rd, 2010 - Kerolos Makhloof died in a boat accident while with his church at Lake Anna.

Kerolos, who was only 20 years old, represented many great things that people are capable of - at VCU he was a Resident Assistant, Founder of the Coptic Club, President of Class of 2011, and star member of ELS amongst many other things. Outside of this, he was a very supportive brother, son, in addition to being a great volunteer and citizen of the community.

It is very difficult to see someone with so much talent, potential, and integrity leave before their time... Our condolences and best wishes are with his family and closest friends.

Kerolos: You will not be forgotten.

VCU Business Society's 1st Annual Golf Open

Two Fridays ago on April 30th, 2010 the VCU Business Society, VCU's School of Business Alumni group, hosted their 1st Annual Golf Open at the Independence Golf Club in Midlothian, VA.

With over 70 players and even golf lessons for newcomers the golf open was a unique new addition to VCU's S of B tradition. The event was truly extraordinary and presented many student volunteers the opportunity to meet and bond with various business leaders - representative of the Greater Richmond community.

We believe the pictures tell a better story - Enjoy!

Congratulations to this year's winners, who received gold jackets along with many other prizes.

If you couldn't make it this year, we hope to see you next year!

The 1st Annual Lessons From Leaders Forum!!!

On Wednesday, March 31st 2010 the collaboration of 10 great student organizations and the VCU Business Society became a reality through VCU's 1st Annual Lessons From Leaders Forum. This year's theme was Perseverance: The Only Safe Ship in a Storm is Leadership” and we were blessed to be engaged by:

Glenn Davis - Founder/CEO of BranCore Technologies

Eric S. Edwards - Co-Founder/Chief Science Officer of Intelliject

John Siddall - Founder/CEO and Chairman of Siddall, Inc.

Nick Abraham - P & C Binding Manager of Markel (Southeast Region)

All moderated by the very talented and insightful David Stirrup of Mutual of Omaha. The event itself was very enjoyable and funny at times, but also very informative and inspiring as each panelist ventured into their pasts to share with us the moments where they met their deepest challenges. In addition, they offered great advice to all of the students in the audience on how to begin a successful career during the current uncertain job market. Finally, a new tradition was born through this event where VCU faculty and staff were awarded for their leadership and service; this year's recipients were Dr. David J. Urban - Grand Leader of the Year and Mr. Doug G. Knapp - Grand Advisor of the Year. The success of this event has ensured that it will become a permanent annual program at VCU, so please by prepared for next year's, which will be held on Monday, April 4th 2011!
