Efficiency and Incentive-based Measures: The Student Body Senate is the most important arm of the VCU Monroe Park Campus Student Government Association and as such it follows logically that this body should be the best managed. Being a VCU Student Body Senator takes diligence in the performance of the tasks at hand and a serious time-commitment. It is also an honor and a privilege; however, more often than not, this is not reflected as it is a daily struggle for Senators to maintain membership and for Elections and Appointments Committees to recruit members. Most college students are dependents and not financially stable. This stress in addition to coursework deters many students, current members and otherwise, from joining a Governing Organization such as VCU SGA and completing work in a manner as they would if it were an actual job. Furthermore, many Senators become complacent in their duties, not because of lax policies, but because some feel they are not included as much in the real decision-making processes; that many of the choices made are singular and not collective. A Legislative Body such as the Senate requires a high-level of cohesion in professional management and a solid commitment unshaken by external variables. The VCU SGA should be the envy of other Student Government Associations across the nation for organizational excellence, competency, dedication and school spirit.
Therefore, the Established Leaders Party pledges to work with the VCU SGA and its advisers to execute the following resolutions to make progress in this area:
- Compensation via a monthly stipend for all Student Body Senators within the Monroe Park Campus
- Separate the SGA Budget from the Appropriations Committee Annuals Process and Receive a permanent set allocation annually that shall be determined by the Joint Committee
- Work with Joint Committee Task Force to consider passing a mandatory uniform/dress code for Monday Senate Meetings, whether it be a VCU SGA Vest to be worn over clothes during meetings or a designed polo shirt, etcetera
- The Established Leaders Party believes this is a necessary initiative for the SGA to increase its presence, for members to feel a more professional association to their cause
- The start of a VCU SGA Newsletter to be placed in the same manner as the Stall Seat Journal (The Well) and The Bottom Line (Cabell Library).
- Work with Joint Committee Task Force to consider passing a mandatory uniform/dress code for Monday Senate Meetings, whether it be a VCU SGA Vest to be worn over clothes during meetings or a designed polo shirt, etcetera
- Separate the SGA Budget from the Appropriations Committee Annuals Process and Receive a permanent set allocation annually that shall be determined by the Joint Committee
